What is a Virtual Terminal?
A virtual terminal is basically a replacement for the traditional "PDQ" style manual card terminal.
It allows you to process your credit and debit card payments manually without having to use an electronic "PDQ" terminal. It includes all the functionality of a traditional terminal such as refunds etc. but with a lot more besides, eg. you can perform fraud checks prior to processing the payment. It is a completely "standalone" solution, ie. you cannot link it directly to your web site. If you want a complete checkout/payment system for your web site please see our other services. The virtual terminal is particularly useful if :-
- You have multiple operators inputting card payments
- You want to be able to process payments from any location
- You want extra fraud checks not available with many "PDQ" terminals
- You want a comprehensive database of payments made
- You want to keep your existing web site checkout system (if you have one)
And of course it will save you the cost of renting a terminal from your bank!
Please note that the virtual terminal is designed for Cardholder Not Present (CNP) payments, it is not suitable for Cardholder Present situations such as in a shop.
What will I need?
All you need to use the service is a computer with an Internet connection, as the virtual terminal is accessed using a standard Internet browser. You will also need a merchant number from your bank. If you already process card payments using a PDQ terminal you can use the same merchant account for your virtual terminal. If you have never accepted card payments before we will assist you in obtaining the relevant merchant account from a UK bank. How much does it cost?
The following table outlines the costs associated with the virtual terminal. There are NO set up fees or monthly fees, only an annual fee of £44.95 plus a transaction fee for successful payments, which you purchase as blocks of credits.

Transaction credits do NOT expire after a certain period, however if you cancel your account with us then we cannot refund any unused transactions.

If you already have a merchant account please do not contact your bank as this will lead to delays and confusion - we will instead contact the bank on your behalf.
